With a record number checking in there was 6 required to stand down!
Lots of new faces, which is great to see, but made picking interesting as we learn everyone’s strengths.
Ruben clearly thought that being over 6 foot is a clear strength and picked a team of giants and as we lined up I could see it was going to be a tough game.
Whites started well and were dominating a lot of the ball close to the yellows goal. But a tight defence managed to keep the attacks at bay.
Yellows then grew into the game and started to see more possession. And then as I chased down the defence a clearance perfectly deflected into the top corner leaving Danny stranded in goal. 1-0 yellows.
Taking maybe an undeserved lead gave the yellows a boost and we started to play some good stuff. Coming close again very soon through Steve.
Whites started to go long ball with Tom as the target man and yellows made the most of this with a quick counter attack and Mike smashing it onto the bar and it rebounding onto the keepers back and into the net. 2-0.
Very soon after Chris pulled one back for whites with a smart low finish and the game was back to a tight one. Then with about 10 mins to go a shot from Andy was well stopped by Danny again, but rebounded out on to the unfortunate Aiden who put it into his own net!
Have to mention the moment when Joe thought for a minute he had gone in goal and decided to catch the ball when it was looping over to the far post. Some quite interesting discussions came afterwards.
Plenty of good performances from both sides but going to give MOM to Jonny as he won plenty of his aerial duals all night.
