First match of the New Year and clearly there were a number of the Plus 30 football club who needed the exercise. Phil and Nick picking with Mr Mealor 2-1 up from the first encounter. This time it was Nick with 1st pick and even sides of 9 each.

Nick in white went for Geoff, Bob, and Dave W at the back with a midfield of Andy Smith Mark and Laurie and Ali and Gary up front. Phil put himself in goal and surveyed his troops including Alan, Carl, Neil, Dave O, Paul, Nick E, Ben and Mac.

After the initial few minutes of skirmishing a fumble from Phil allowed a soft goal from Alistair and it was game on. At times there was some neat interplay and a number of very well worked opportunities for both sides. Andy Smith netted from short range to double the advantage As the game proceeded the goal opportunities were converted by the men in white while the yellows could not find the back of the net. In the second half after a change of ends the turning point of the match was reached when Mac had the goal in his site only to be thwarted by the cross bar. Immediately following this chance the ball was quickly take the other end of the pitch and Gary lashed home to make it 3-0. By the end of the game 2 goals from Gary, 2 from Ali and 1 from Andy gave Nick a 5-0 victory and passage to the Captains cup. Thanks boys.

Unlucky Phil but I think the self-destruct button was pressed early on.
