Match Report

Written by Mark Austin
Playing our second leg, I was instantly worried about protecting my 9-3 lead from the first leg when I saw it was 7 a side with a tough pick. Ben had first choice so was always on top with his selections and there were the usual cries out on the pitch of "who picked this team" from the yellows.

Despite this, the game started brightly with the whites having most of the possession. Within minutes a long range strike from captain Ben hit the underside of the bar and bounced close to the line. The power of the shot made it impossible to tell if it had bounced over the line or not but luckily Alistair, from 3 miles away in his house, was able to confirm the whole of the ball DID NOT cross the line! No goal.

Soon after Andy E hit the bar with another long range effort but the Yellows were holding firm with commanding performances from defence. Although not seeing much of the ball, the pace of Chris and Andy M was always a threat and, against the run of play, a quick break ended in Chris placing the ball past Mac in goal 1-0 yellows.

Ben soon equalised with a tidy finish across the keeper from a tight angle but at 1-1 the game was fairly even. All was going well until a spell of 10 minutes in the second half saw the game decided with 3 comedy goals from the whites.
The first of these came from a long range effort which deceived everyone as it was cushioned expertly by Dave W backside straight into the path of Ben who slotted into an empty net. The second then came from a tame effort from Ben which was rolling wide of the goal until Paul tried to play safe and put it out for a corner but instead steered it into the goal. The third came from a shot from Gary which rebounded off the post straight into my shins and back into the goal. Two own goals to finish it at 4-1.

Well done to Ben for a strong captain's performance following some really good form lately. Hopefully your hamstring injury won't keep you out for too long.
