Match Report
Written by Andy SmithTeams and scores as noted on the front page. Gary correctly represented my Mourinho style line up of 2:1:2:1. If he had spotted that during the game he may have fared better!
For the second week running, it was a case of old legs v young legs and unfairly ( I think) cast in the Captain's role against Gary. I feared the worst and another drubbing. However, first pick and even sides this week helped.
Also, only 7 a side - more space to cover, but importantly for the senior players, more time on the ball and for the brain message to reach the feet before being closed down!
It was contain and hit on the break for the whites, using Ally and Young Andy's pace. Yellows had most of the early play, but did not really threaten the goal as bodies were put on the line to stop shots getting through, or yellows were keeping the ball boy occupied in the field beyond. Gradually whites got a foothold, from the first corner for whites, the ball bounced up and Paul managed to get the message all the way down to the end of his size 17s to volley home well.
A potential own goal of the season followed from Doc who had to try and intervene on my through ball for Ally to chase ( very reminiscent of Aston Villa's Collins own goal v City recently if you have seen it). As the pass was goal bound I shall claim the goal and try and avoid Doc the embarrassment. Yellows pressed and finally Gary nipped in smartly to latch on to a low cross and finish with aplomb. Their attempts to draw level just left more space for the counter, and we should have put the game well out of reach before Ally, after 2 previous attempts at the same thing, looped a header over the advancing keeper. This was quickly followed by one his trade mark runs down the right and a diagonal strike into the bottom left corner.
So 4-1, but I was much closer than the score suggests, Ben in particular was unlucky to be on a losing side. Our team held their discipline and shape throughout, with Neil who did not put a foot wrong edging it as the MOM and propelling himself to the top of the table in doing so. Game on for the last 4 weeks!
