Match Report
Written by Gary ParkerAs Neil was away this week doing a football coaching course, it was left with me next in line to pick the teams with Phil. With Phil being above me, I had first pick. My most pressing issue was that Ali has been closing the gap for the golden boot, being only 4 goals behind me before the game. So my first pick had to be Ali, with the intention of putting him in goal for the whole game, to stop him scoring.
As it turned out, I had Ken in my team as well, so Ali had to come out, however under captains orders he was told not to score and to set me up.
The game got underway and from the outset Phil's team took control of the game. Dominating possession of the ball and piling the pressure on our defence.
The first goal came with a ball was floated in from the wing, Ken ran out to collect, only for Bob to intervene and volley a superb backwards volley into his own net, which left Ken flapping.
The game continued under the same pressure, with Richie looking to find Mac with cross after cross. Our defence was superb, with Bob, Brian and Nick executing some brilliant defensive headers and a timely elbow on Mac, ensured he would no longer be as threatening.
The yellows eventually levelled the score, with Nick E setting up Ali. It was on the break again that we scored our second goal. Nick E with a superb piece of dribbling and setting up Ali to score the winner.
MOM
I can't give man of the match to Ali, as he went against captains orders and scored two goals, Nick e had another good game in midfield, however my man of the match is Bob. Despite scoring an own goal, his defensive work was brilliant and very much needed in this game.
Good luck Phil next week!
