Match Report Captains Cup Final- 2nd September 2015

21 of the Plus 30 football cohort showed up on the first Wednesday in September to celebrate the opening game of the 2015/16 season. Also it was the final of the captain's cup between Nick B and Chris Stewart.

First job of the night was to get the 21 down to 20 (sorry Richie).

Nick (in Yellow) had first pick and went for Andy Smith, Andy Mealor, Ben, Gary, Dave Woods, Geoff, Paul, Bob and Mark Nuttall (a mixture of youth and height)
Chris (in white) had Alistair, Carl, Phil, Alan, Andy Eyres, Mark, Mike, Brian and Neil

With 20 people of various sizes on the pitch there wasn't a great deal of room for silky skills, which normally results in a low scoring game. However after just five minutes Paul stepped up to the plate and slotted home 1-0 to the Doc. Could the men in yellow hang on to the lead and exert extra pressure on the white back line? The answer was not long in coming when the whites got behind the defence and Mark converted the cross to make it 1-1. A further goal headed in by Chris, put the whites up for the first time in the game.

Nick's team were struggling to find enough space at the other end of the pitch and the various efforts were either blocked, saved or wide of the mark. In addition they had clearly lost the ability to pass the ball to the goal machine Paul Hackett who was starting to let his frustration show. In contrast Chris's boys carved their way through midfield with irritating regularity. Assisted by some indifferent goal keeping Andy Eyres and Alistair increased the lead to 4-1 for the whites, and the proverbial mountain needed to be climbed by those in yellow. A late goal from Ben made the score a little more respectable.

Final score 4-2 to Chris and new holder of the Captains cup.
